In 2009, the International Olympic Committee held one of its major international congresses – the IOC Olympic Congress in Copenhagen – with the purpose of selecting the host city for the 2016 Olympic Games. The congress lasted 10 days, taking place at multiple venues across Copenhagen. Among the many heads of state and VIPs attending were then U.S. President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.
The Olympic Congress was a large, complex international event with strong political and international stakeholders, significant budgets, and collaboration across languages, cultures, and institutions.
